Houston Engagement Session
Morgan & Kareem’s engagement photos retraced their significant moments as a couple at the Woodlands Waterway, Memorial Park, and the Houston Waterwall.
These two had A LOT of ideas for their engagement session. As a couple they’re sweet and sentimental, and they really know how to celebrate the fact that they found each other. Their first date was at the Woodlands Waterway, and they had a few other special locations in mind. Now, as you’re probably aware if you live here, Houston is enormous, and traveling from up North in the Woodlands, all the way down to the Galleria area where the Waterwall is located, is not a quick trip.
As a photographer, I’ve always made my engagement sessions unlimited time (I reserve a half day). This is because the engagement session is not just a photoshoot, its also how we get to know each other. By the time we get to your wedding day, I want being in front of my camera to feel as natural as breathing and for there to be no doubt in your mind that you’ll love your photos—and an engagement shoot gives us a chance to do a trial run so I can learn exactly what works best for you. Unlimited time on your engagement shoot also means that we can visit multiple locations, no matter how far apart they are, and you’ll have plenty of time for wardrobe changes too.
Revisiting their First Date at the Woodlands Waterway
The best love story is your own love story. Morgan and Kareem’s story started with a date at the Woodlands Waterway. In order to have the place all to ourselves, we met there to start the shoot at 8am. The light was perfect, and these two told me all about how they met and what first attracted them to each other. They walked me to a bench where they had shared an important conversation, and we took photos at pretty spots along the way—and we bumped into some mounted security patrol guys who let us take a photo with their friendly horses. I also always take solo portraits of each person at engagement sessions, because everyone can always use a great portrait of themselves to use as an updated headshot or social profile photo.
Memorial Park holds special memories for the couple
Our second stop of the day was Memorial Park, where these two had also shared some special moments. Once again we found a certain bench that was special to them and took some photos in their second outfits among the trees for a different look.
Houston’s Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park
Even though I’ve lived in Houston for five years now, this was my first trip to the Waterwall and it did not disappoint. Morgan and Kareem didn't have any special attachment to the Waterwall, but it sounded cool and they liked the idea of something so iconically Houston. We decided to make this our last stop in case the extra humidity from the wall transformed Morgan’s hair into an entirely different style. Fortunately she looked glamorous the whole time.
“Hey, do you mind if we do something weird?”
Morgan had asked my favorite question. I was onboard immediately. When couples are up for being weird around me it’s generally a good sign that they’re comfortable—and when you’re comfortable that’s when the best photos always happen.
When she revealed that the weird thing was WEARING MATCHING DINOSAUR COSTUMES I was all about that. We took these last few photos in the park next to the Waterwall at the end of our shoot. I hope and pray these are the photos they use for their save the date cards.
