After a few years, when trends have inevitably changed, the photos of friends and family stand out more. That one face your dad makes when he gets emotional, or the photo with all of your extended family, including the grandparent who is no longer with us.
After a few decades, when you know your spouse better than you ever thought possible, one of life’s greatest joys can be looking back at wedding photos of your younger selves and remembering what it felt like when you first fell in love.
Which means your wedding photos actually matter a lot, because you’ll spend your whole life looking at them.

Hi, I’m Libby Dollar!
Helping couples like you enjoy their wedding, before, during, and after it happens, is my life’s work.
I’ve photographed approximately 300 weddings professionally all over the world since I opened my business in 2009.
To me, there’s no better feeling on earth than showing someone, through photos, how beautiful and loved they are.
I’m an oldest daughter from a massive, loud family—which means I’m a calm, confident, organized, problem solver on your wedding day, even if your family is as nuts as mine.
Weddings are my #1 favorite thing to photograph. I love love and I’m just as interested in your love story as I am in your style.
I’m a public speaker, former theatre kid, and an educator for other wedding professionals.

When I give direction, I account for how you naturally move and interact, your personalities, the colors and shapes of your clothing and how those can best work with the background, and most importantly, how you feel during the process, because of how it effects the look on your face (because it’s all for nothing if your wedding photos look like your drivers license).
I’ll never leave you to guess what you need to do, and I’ll always make sure you feel comfortable and confident so you look your best in your photos.

As a married couple who recently planned our own wedding, we know what it feels like to be in your shoes, so we’re focused on helping make every aspect of your day enjoyable.
We are the only two people who work for this company. We don’t hire associates or substitutes, so all of your communication is with us, and we’re the ones who will be there on your wedding day.
We both have an extensive background in customer service and hospitality. (In fact, we met many years ago when we worked together as bartenders.) Your experience, and that of your guests, family, and other vendors, is always top of mind for us.
Inclusivity is our most important value. We are LGBTQ+ affirming and strong advocates for body positivity.
Now local to Chicago
The Midwest is huge. We’d never charge you extra for travel.
We love destinations, but if your wedding is within about 3 hours drive from our home in Kalamazoo, MI, you get our local rates!
(This includes Greater Chicago, Detroit, Traverse City, Northern Indiana, and parts of Northern Ohio)
Why Chicago and SW Michigan?
We’ve recently moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan to be closer to family, and to find a place that feels like home. This isn’t our first time in the midwest. In our 17 years in business, we’ve photographed destination weddings in 28 states—including Illinois, and our first wedding ever, which was on Mackinac Island, MI, back in 2009.

Your photos are all yours
Our prices aren’t gimmicks. There are no hidden fees.
Did you know that some wedding photographers don’t include your photos in the price?
Our wedding packages all include all your images as full and web resolution JPG files, so you can print and share them however you like. Not like some photographers who expect you to pay by the image just to keep your own memories.
Some high-quality photo print compaines won’t allow you to print professional images without a signed release from the photographer.
We think holding your photos hostage is unfair. with Libby Dollar Photography, your photos are truly yours. You can order prints through us, or print your images anywhere, and we include an official signed release automatically.
Engagement Session
Engagement photos are good for so much more than Save-the-Dates
Your engagement photos are like your first set of family photos.
If you’re on the fence about doing an engagement session, maybe it’s because you’ve seen cheesy engagement photos, or can’t imagine subjecting your partner to an additional photo shoot.
An engagement session with Libby Dollar Photography is so much more than close ups of the ring and awkward make-out photos. Instead, the session is time when we can get to know each other, so by the time the wedding day comes you feel amazing in front of the camera!
Plus, it gives us a chance to fine-tune your preferences before the big day. Do you have a “best side?” Do certain poses or prompts work better for you? Does it take you a while to get over the feeling of being camera-shy? We can figure all this out together at the engagement session so your wedding day portraits are quick and stress-free. We also encourage feedback after your photos are delivered so we know exactly how to wow you with your wedding photos.
Plus, you end up with a gallery of 100 or so photos of you and your favorite person, that you can use for profile photos, status updates, birthdays, sending to your grandma, and even LinkedIn! Sure, some of the photos feature your new ring and being affectionate, but we also focus on classic poses, natural interactions, and solid individual portraits too.

Non-intrusive shooting style
On your wedding day, there’s “picture time” and then there’s everything else. We capture both.
When most people think about wedding photos, posed portraits of the couple, with or without wedding party and family, are the first thing to come to mind.
But there’s so much more to your wedding day.
Candid photos, captured when you didn’t even notice the camera, can be the most powerful images. Why? Because staged moments feel staged, but real moments feel real.
That’s why the most important thing we do is: anticipate and capture the visual sparks that happen between you and your loved ones. We do this by being prepared, blending in, and developing intuition through years of experience.
Which is how we never have to ask you to “re-do” a tender moment “for the photo.”
Real help making your day more enjoyable
Most couples report family photos as their least favorite part of the wedding day.
Later in life, family photos are often mentioned among people’s most important possessions. Yet, on your wedding day, organizing and directing a large group of family members for a portrait can be a huge chore.
But it’s so important because your wedding day is often the only time these significant people will all be in the same place—which means it’s the only chance to create the photos you’ll want to look back on years from now.
That’s why we make it easy:
Before your wedding, we’ll work closely with you to put together a list of family photo groupings that is clear, concise, and equitable. Your family is unique, so we help create a completely custom shot list that accounts for all of your people, and the groupings that will mean the most to you in the future.
We’ll also help you troubleshoot difficult people, logistical challenges, timeline crunches, and anything else that might create a snag in an otherwise perfect day.
When the wedding day comes, we keep track of and direct your family and group photos using everyone’s names, and working in a direct but flexible way that ensures we can get photos you love, of everyone that matters to you, with minimal fuss.

Your memories are irreplaceable
We play it safe with your photos
We carry backups of all our equipment at every wedding. We’re prepared for everything.
Each of our professional cameras has redundant slots for memory cards. A malfunction can’t ruin the day, because we already have multiple copies of your photos.
Every image file is backed up in 3 separate places before we begin editing.
We carry professional liability insurance, and are happy to provide your venue or any other vendors with a certificate.
We have a backup plan for ourselves too—if, in the extremely unlikely event that we have a disaster on our end that prevents us from being at your wedding, you get your choice of your money back or another competent professional who is subject to your approval.
How to work with Us
Book your free Consultation Call:
Pick a time for a 15-30 minute phone call with Libby. You can ask any question, no matter how random, and there’s no pressure to make a decision on the phone. The goal is simply to determine if we’re a good fit for your wedding.
After the call
We’ll email you your quote: an online portal where you can choose your package, sign your contract, and pay your 25% retainer online.
Once you’re signed and paid, you’re booked! We’ll put your wedding date (and any dates we require for travel, if relevant) on our official calendar, and we will turn away all other inquiries for your date(s).
