A Southwest Michigan Engagement

Bridget and Robert walk along the shore of Lake Michigan in South Haven, MI during their engagement session

How do you pick a spot for your engagement session when your entire state is special to you? Bridget and Robert are set to tie the Knot this October in Eaton Rapids. They live about an hour apart from each other in Central Michigan, so their memories together have been spent exploring this beautiful state. The big lake, in particular, is an inspiration to Bridget, but they also wanted to include their wedding venue, The English Inn, and its stately setting.

Fortunately for this couple, my engagement sessions are always open ended. I think it’s important to have photos taken at sentimental places. When you look back at your engagement and wedding photos years after your wedding, Seeing not just your younger selves in love, but also the places you made those first important memories together, is really powerful. When Bridget suggested that their engagement session might involve a bit of driving, I didn’t hesitate.

The English Inn

Located just South of Lansing in Eaton Rapids, The English Inn is a historic mansion with manicured gardens leading down to a riverfront ceremony deck. Check back for Bridget & Robert’s wedding photos at this venue later this fall.

South Haven Lighthouse

Is there anything better than the beach at sunset? Bridget told me she has always been especially inspired by the water, and she and Robert have a lot of great memories there. I was delighted I was able to get my drone up for an overhead shot, despite the strong winds.

Mattawan Lavender Farm

One of the things I’ve learned about Michigan since I moved here this summer is just how many beautiful things grow well here. From the wildflowers on the side of the road in the spring, to, arguably, the best fall colors around, Michigan just knows how to show off. Our final stop was at the Shades of Lavender farm in Mattawan.
